Red Hill Field Primary School

Curriculum Information

At Red Hill Field we offer a broad, balanced and academically rigorous curriculum for all our learners. Children in the Early Years Foundation Stage are taught in line with the EYFS framework which emphasises the development of key skills, knowledge and understanding through direct teaching and structured continuous provision.

Across Key Stages 1 and 2, our bespoke curriculum has been developed from the national curriculum. It introduces pupils to ‘the best that has been thought and said’. We have designed our curriculum with a clear focus on vocabulary acquisition, and knowledge at its heart. The use of ‘knowledge organisers’ ensures that children and parents know the expectations for learning. Our understanding of current research on how memory works underpins how the narrative is developed over time through carefully planned, sequenced learning which builds on prior knowledge. This ensures that children make progress in their understanding as the content is retained and drawn upon for future learning.

Our aim is to provide pupils with an introduction to the essential knowledge that they need to be educated citizens; to increase their cultural capital, and to be able to contribute positively to the well-being of their community and to wider society.

The Learn-AT Curriculum and Pedagogy Framework was published in July 2018. It is an overarching statement of vision and agreed values and principles which informs Red Hill Field's own bespoke curriculum designs.
